Abstract
A survey was conducted on 2,261 school boys in some urban areas to check out their physical growth, development and nutrition state during the period from June 14, 1967 to June 17.
As the results of this study, the following conclusions were revealed.
A) Physical Growth and Development State
1. Direct curve in physical growth and development was observed during the period from 13 to 18 years of age.
2. The age and Quantity of Maximum Growth and Development
Height: 15-16 years of age 9.48 §¯
Body weight: 13-14 years of age 7.60 §¸
Chest circumference: 13-14 years of age 4.80 §¯
Sitting height : 13-14 years of age 4.49 §¸
3. Comparision with Japanese Students
Most Korean students are shorter than Japanese students, though the standard of height became higher than before. The standard of body weight is visibly lower than that of the Japanese students now as well as in the past. The standard of chest circumference of 15-17 years of age students is lower now than before and the students of 12-17 years of age are lower than Japanese students in chest circumferences. The standard of the sitting heights of the Korean students are growing steadily, but every students are shorter than Japanese students now and in the past except for years of age.
4. The greatest differences in physical growth and development were shown in adolescent age.
5. The students of and years of age developed their bodies most highly according to index of ?? .
6. Body weight and chest circumference have not grown enough compared with height. The development of sitting height was made highly and the development is steadily growing as they grow old.
B) Nutrition State
1. Cheilosis from the deficiencies of Vitamin B©ü(Rivofiavin) was shown 28.89 per cent among all the students checked out. The cheilosis of Junior high school boys were higher with 29.21 per cent than senior high school boys with 21.47 per cent. The outbreak of cheilosis was shown most highly with 37.41 per cent in 15 years of age.
2. Skinfold Thickness
The skinfold thickness showed that subscapular was thicket and lumber next thickest, abdomen thinner and upper arm thinnest. The study of skinfold thickness of subscapular and lumbar was adequate to check out the nutrition state of the students, however, the study of the skinfole thickness of abdomen and upper arm was not. The skinfole thickness similiar to the middle class people was around ¨ö-1/3.5 of that of school girl or ¨ö-1/3of that of a healthy adult.
3. Judged from various index of nutrition, the nutrition state was not satisfactory but the state is developing as sthey grow.
